IF it bleeds it leads

We believe that news organisations present a distorted view of the world by disproportionately promoting stories that are shocking and often negative. There’s an old saying in the industry that “if it bleeds, it leads.” They are trying to capture your attention, and the best way to do through is through fear and violence.

But what's good for the news organisations isn’t necessarily good for us - the people who watch and read the news. Writing about violent crimes, gruesome murders and horrible accidents might be good for ratings, but it also alters our perception of the world. We start to think these things happen much more frequently than they actually do – it can make us scared, angry, irrational and depressed.

our approach

We’re not trying to bury our heads in the sand – a lot of bad things happen in this world. The Good News Email is an attempt to remind us that a lot of beautiful things happen too. It’s an attempt to provide some balance, an injection of positivity and optimism into the world.

We want to take an opportunity every Monday to start the week on the right foot, to provide hope and inspiration, launching you into the week with a big, infectious grin on your face that spreads to everyone you meet.

We think that occasionally reading positive news is good for the mind, the body and the soul. It might not change the whole world, but it could change yours.
