25TH JUNE 2018

GOOD MORNING! Did you hear about the guy who invented the lifesavers? They say he made a mint.

Drink beer, save turtles.

Whether you believe climate change is a catastrophe or a hoax, it’s hard to argue against reducing the ridiculous amount of plastic that we throw away each year. Plenty of countries have announced bans or restrictions on plastic bags and straws, but here at The Good News Email we are big fans of finding a viable alternative.

Enter the Saltwater Brewery in Florida. The craft-beer brewing boffins have come up with a biodegradable six-pack holder that feeds sea turtles rather than kill them. Let’s hope some large breweries get behind the idea and bring forth the power of economies of scale – we can’t wait to drink a couple of frothies and support some turtles.

A company that gives a sh!t.

Lindsay Stradley loves to talk sh!t. She’s even done a TED talk on it. Stradley started Sanergy, a social enterprise that provides dignified sanitation solutions to some of the most impoverished communities in the world. Her and her team have created a replicable, scalable model for improving sanitation and have been impacting lives for over ten years.

Sanergy takes a systems approach – they don’t just build loos, they collect waste and process it into fertilizer and renewable energy. They even franchise the model out to local entrepreneurs.

This is a great example of applying business acumen and commercial solutions to a seemingly intractable problem – poor sanitation in slums.

Gonzo wisdom.

Good news is rare these days, and every glittering ounce of it should be cherished and hoarded and worshipped and fondled like a priceless diamond.

World Cup good news.

It's that time once again - every four years the World Cup rolls around and the world is enthralled. Amid the heartache and triumph, here are some of our favourite stories so far:
  • Fans from Japan and Senegal clean up the stadium after a match (video).
  • Iranian women were allowed to watch the football in the same stadium as men (article).
  • A beautiful photo collection of the most incredible football pitches around the world (photos).
